About Navx
Navx is your window on the world, a space available for you to explore, create and share places that are geolocalised and rich in information. These places can be points (POI, Points Of Interest), and traces. Find the place of your childhood memories, your school, your favourite bar, the place where you work or your last travel route, Navx lets you see the whole on a map and share it with your friends and family. But Navx is much more than that, and you're about to discover it very quickly!
What's more, if you are fortunate enough to have a GPS, Navx Sync synchronisation software will help you automatically keep a record of your traces, which you can then put on Navx, visualise, save or share.
Take the time to explore Navx. When you enter the site, you’ll find a map with points marked on different places around the world. The categories and authors of the POIs and traces are also clickable to facilitate the site navigation. You can use one of the search options.
To enjoy all the advantages of the site, register at Navx. It is now your turn to play, create and share your favourite points of interest and your traces on the map. Is your GPS compatible? (click here to check it) Hook it up to your computer, go to your account and click on « activate tracker ». Make your choice: bike, car, boat, ski or hike? Get about and let your GPS record your traces to be able afterwards to save them on Navx, view them and, if you wish to do so, mark them public for other users to enjoy them.
You don't need to have a GPS in order to use Navx, but with a GPS and Navx Sync helps you to get in the places you see in the map, record your travels and upload them in the application. So it is not required to have a GPS but it is nevertheless very convenient! Have you thought about purchasing a GPS?
To take advantage of the whole Navx platform, all you have to do is fill in the form that you can find on the home page, top right tab: « create an account ».
If you have forgotten your password, click on « forgotten password » and we will send you an e-mail with a password.
If you only wish to change your current password, you can do it by clicking on « My account ».
In order to delete your account, send us an e-mail at connect@navx.com with delete account in the subject line. Kindly tell us why you wish to delete your account. We are always ready to listen to all your suggestions.
About POI
Points Of Interest (POI) are the geolocalised places that you can mark on a map as useful, important, interesting, unique, typical, etc.
POI examples: a good restaurant, a store with good bargains, a gas station close by, a quiet hotel, or just a good place.
Once registered at Navx, you can create your own POI by clicking on « add a POI ». For the POI to be effective, you must fill in all the attributes provided and place the pin on the desired location on the map.
To change the location of a POI, its category, its description, its tags or its name, click on
.
Once the changes have been made, click on « save ».
The tags, the categories and the visibility are the essential attributes of a POI.
- Visibility is an option that allows making a POI that you have created public or private. When visibility is set on public, other users can consult you POI. When it is set on private no one can view it other than you.
- The categories and subcategories are classifications predefined by Navx that help you organise and find your POI.
-
A tag is defined by the creator of the POI.
Tag examples: paris, restaurant, gas station, cinema ...
Tip: when you want to attribute a compound tag, use inverted commas.
Compound tag example: "gas station"
To facilitate the filing of your POI and of your traces that are linked to the same context, we have created the collections. Furthermore, all your POI will be visible when you click on « My POI » in the left menu.
It is a space to store the POI to which you have not yet given the corresponding attributes. In order for these POI to be placed in « My POI », give them a name, add a description, and choose the category, the subcategory, the visibility and the corresponding tags.
About traces
To understand it well, imagine you’re going from London to Manchester. The route you cover is a trace that can be automatically recorded by the tracker (Click here to check the compatibility of your GPS with the tracker), or else, it can be found in a GPX, KML, KMZ, NTRK, TRK, OV2 or ZIP file. With Navx, you can view them, store them but also, watch the photos of your Flickr account, taken along your route.
There are two ways to create a trace. The first is to use the tracker. After having recorded the trace from your GPS, hook the GPS up to your PC and Navx software will automatically transfer the GPS traces to « Imported traces ». Once the trace has been transferred, you can associate it with a name, tags, category, and subcategory and choose the preferred visibility before validating it in « My traces ».
The second way is to import the trace manually. To do so, you can use the
. The bottom of the page. Select a GPX (GPS eXchange Format), KML, KMZ, NTRK, TRK, OV2 or a ZIP format file. Once the file has been uploaded, it will be saved under « Imported traces » or « traces ».
It is a space to store the traces to which you have not yet given the corresponding attributes. In order for these traces to be placed in « My traces », give them a name, add a description, and choose the category, the subcategory, the visibility and the corresponding tags.
To change the name of a trace, its description, its tags or category, click on
then on « edit ». Once the changes have been made, click on « save ».
The departure and arrival hours, the tags, the category, the subcategory and the visibility are the attributes of a trace.
- The visibility of a trace can be public or private depending on your wish. When visibility is set on public, other users can consult your trace. When it is set on private, you are the only one to view it.
- The categories and subcategories are classifications predefined by Navx that help you organise and find your traces.
-
A tag is defined by the creator of the trace. Top tags are visible on the site in the tag cloud on the left menu.
Tag examples: paris, restaurant, gas station, cinema ...
Tip: when you want to attribute a compound tag, use inverted commas.
Compound tag example: "gas station".
To facilitate the filing of your traces that are linked to the same context, you can use the collections. Furthermore, all your traces will be visible when you click on « My Traces » in the left menu.
You only need to accept the authentication of your Flickr account from the Navx site, so as to display the photos taken on the same date and hour as your trace.
If for any reason, the date or hour of your pictures do not correspond to those of the trace, you can always edit the trace data using the “hour setting” tab in order to geolocalise your photos on the Navx site.
About collections
A collection is a space that groups together POI and/or traces linked to the same context.
Imagine for example that you like theatre and that you wish to share your passion. Then you create POI with theatre locations that you know. You can also describe the best plays you have seen. To gather these POI on one map, you can create a collection and drag the POI into the dedicated collection. You want to send your collection to your friends? Have a look to the « export content » category.
The name, category and subcategory are the attributes of a collection.
About contributions
A contribution is an open set. It means that everyone can add new POI.
The idea is to share the points of interests linked to the same context. After the pooling of contributions, everyone can see them.
For now, the contributions are created by the manager of the website. If you have any suggestion or a new original idea, do not hesitate to contact us.
We care about publishing a good quality contribution. For that, we need a few hours so the master of the contribution takes a look at the added points. Are you interested by a contribution? Do you want to become master? Do not hesitate to contact us.
